Suppose you're a teacher who has a collection of links to different online articles and videos to share with the class, in addition to various PDFs and Word Documents. Traditionally, the teacher puts these links into the class Moodle site for the students top click and view. It's extremely cumbersome, and not engaging, for the student to click on each link to open a new window. In addition there isn't a way for the students to collaborate with each other and ask questions. Finally the teacher has no idea whether the students viewed the content or not. With MentorMob the teacher can put all those links, PDFs, and Word Documents into Playlists and embed a widget of the Playlist into Moodle, so the students can walk through the content and comment/ask questions. Students can also collaborate on Playlists by adding their own content that they find for research projects, class discussions, etc. Finally, with upgraded accounts the teacher can view completion analytics for each student. Now suppose this was implemented on a larger scale to the entire school. The dean/principal can view analytics on student progress and engagement from a simple dashboard. We would enjoy walking the MoodleMoot group through how MentorMob can be embedded within Moodle and how MentorMob is already being used within the Moodle community.
Charles Perry will be presenting. Charles is chronicling the adventure of disrupting education on the MentorMob blog. Institutionalized education should light a fire inside students that compels them to relentlessly pursue their interests. With the clever use of technology, we can provide personalized, high quality learning content for free to just about anyone. He's a firm believer in the power of life long learning, crowdsourcing, and soul food.
