About the Presenter:
Anton Pienaar is the Resource Development Manager at e-Blended Learning Solutions (www.e-BLS.com) in New Plymouth, Taranaki. He has been involved locally and internationally in the design and implementation of e-learning, teaching and assessment resources. Specifically, his research focus is on the emerging educational technologies that influence 21st century learning. He holds an MA in Higher Education with specialisation in e-Learning. In addition to this degree, he also possesses a Bachelor of Management and Leadership degree, which has greatly assisted him in his leadership roles in education and business. Anton is an experienced and well qualified teacher, having taught from high school level to post-graduate level. Anton has presented academic papers at several local and international conferences and is passionate about the discourse that online learning creates,and its real influence on learning.

e-Blended Learning Solutions (e-BLS) develops educational resources for the Practical Education Institute (PEI), one of New Zealand’s largest private tertiary establishments. These companies form part of the Zieland Group of Companies. Recently, e-BLS won a national Hospitality Standards Institute (HSI) award for best training product of the year, using the design techniques and online learning model deployed at PEI.
Anton is originally from South Africa, and he is married to Kathleen and has two children, Brendon and Katelin. He is a career e-educationalist and has been accused of becoming an online learning evangelist by friends and colleagues. When he is not reading about e-learning, he likes to listen to music and spend time with his family.

Welcome to the annual connecting online live online conference (CO11). You are cordially invited to participate at the live online conference on the weekend of Feb 4-6 2011.


The conference will be of interest to educators, administrators, students, and community members who value the importance of integrating technology into the curriculum to improve instruction and learning. Online learning involves various skills on the part of the instructor and learner. These include social and communication skills, social networking, independent learning strategies, critical and higher order thinking skills, creativity, and effective online and face-to-face facilitation. In addition, there are may challenges that the educators, administrators, students, and community members face.


The CO11 will be conducted on IT4ALL Moodle with the presentations on WiZiQ through the Moodle.


The themes for the presentations are:



  1. Connecting Online to Improve Instruction and Learning: Online Learning and Instructional Experience

  2. Experiences with technology in face-to-face and online classes. What worked and what didn't work for you?

  3. How do you use technology to promote and sustain your online workshops, consultation, and communities of practice and learning?

  4. Research conducted on e-learning, blended online learning, and blended learning.

  5. Reviewing or promoting books on integrating technology into the classroom, e-learning, blended learning, and blended online learning.

  6. Challenges administrators, instructors, students, and community members face in connecting online.
