About the Presenter:
Dr. Brian Friedlander is an Associate Professor of Education at the College of St. Elizabeth in Morristown, NJ where he heads up the Graduate Programs in Special Education. Brian is passionate about the use of assistive technology with students with disabilities. He teaches graduate level courses in AT and maintains an active blog at AssistiveTek Blog where he writes about his experiences with hardware and software applications. He is also the author of Assistive Technology: What Every Educator Needs to Know, a reference guide and current subject matter of the video Assistive Technology: Powerful Solutions for Success. or the past 10 years Dr Friedlander has been teaching graduate course using a hybrid methodology.

About the Presentation:
Using the ubiquitous PDF format, it is now easier than ever to deliver your digital assets for your students to view with the free Adobe Acrobat Reader 9. Today you can also take advantage of screencasting software (Adobe Captivate and Camatasia Studio) that can be integrated into a PDF Portfolio. These technologies now let you incorporate rich media into your courses, and deliver them as a PDF.

In this session, participants will learn how to create PDF Portfolios that can contain Word documents, graphics, Excel spreadsheets, and video, and deliver your final document in one PDF file. You will learn how to use Adobe Acrobat Extended Pro to create e Learning materials from your PowerPoint slides that you can publish as a PDF. You will also view a recently completed eBook project called Technology Support for Writing that incorporates SWF videos.

In this session, you will learn:
* How to create a PDF Portfolio using a variety of file formats
* How to integrate SWF videos from Camtasia Studio and Adobe Captivate into your PDF Portfolios
* How to deliver your PDF Portfolio with the free Adobe Acrobat Reader
* How to add SWF videos to Microsoft Word and PowerPoint

Welcome to the annual connecting online live online conference (CO11). You are cordially invited to participate at the live online conference on the weekend of Feb 4-6 2011.


The conference will be of interest to educators, administrators, students, and community members who value the importance of integrating technology into the curriculum to improve instruction and learning. Online learning involves various skills on the part of the instructor and learner. These include social and communication skills, social networking, independent learning strategies, critical and higher order thinking skills, creativity, and effective online and face-to-face facilitation. In addition, there are may challenges that the educators, administrators, students, and community members face.


The CO11 will be conducted on IT4ALL Moodle with the presentations on WiZiQ through the Moodle.


The themes for the presentations are:



  1. Connecting Online to Improve Instruction and Learning: Online Learning and Instructional Experience

  2. Experiences with technology in face-to-face and online classes. What worked and what didn't work for you?

  3. How do you use technology to promote and sustain your online workshops, consultation, and communities of practice and learning?

  4. Research conducted on e-learning, blended online learning, and blended learning.

  5. Reviewing or promoting books on integrating technology into the classroom, e-learning, blended learning, and blended online learning.

  6. Challenges administrators, instructors, students, and community members face in connecting online.
