Can Social Networks support Learning Management - An analysis of the Facebook Group Design with Lenandlar Singh
Social Networks, and in particular Facebook have been discussed at length as adequate supplements and potential replacements for traditional learning management systems. How much of this is possible in reality? Do their designs support such speculations? This presentation will outline design features of a social network system - Facebook Groups and offer a comparison with typical learning management system features and functionalities. The objective of this presentation is to outline strengths and potentials of existing social networks and point to their limitations as learning management system replacements.

Lenandlar Singh is a lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Guyana. He joined the staff on September 1, 2000. He was awarded a BSc in Computer Science (2000) and a Post Graduate Diploma in Education (2005) from the University of Guyana. He is also the holder of an MSc in Internet Applications Development from the University of Brighton (2007). He is presently the Assistant Chief Examiner for the Caribbean Examinations Council’s CAPE Examinations in Information Technology.
